Paige

Paige is a very confident and independent horse that likes her personal space. She seems to enjoy spending time with people more than with other horses. She is kind with every person that she meets, but her full personality only comes out with people who really take the time to get to know her. Paige may only make a few strong connections, but once you are one of her people she will do anything for you. She is a fun-loving horse with lots of personality who likes learning and play more than hard ridden work.

Abbey is our wise maternal horse. She is very herd-oriented, protective and loyal of her herd-mates, even if not very affectionate with other horses. Although easy going, she can initially seem standoffish when you initially meet her. However, if a person has a genuine interest in getting to know Abbey, she seems to be able to sense it, and warms right up to the person after a few moments of gentle contact with her. Abbey is proof that you can’t judge a book by its cover because behind the initial mistrust is a sweet loving horse that gets along with most people and most other horses.

Guinness is one of our newest horses and has one of the most unknown histories. When he first arrived, he had a very tough outer shell, and rarely showed any emotion towards people. He seemed cold and closed off. You could tell that he was used to fighting for all he had and that his tough outer shell was what he needed to survive in his past homes. As he grew to know us over many, many months he slowly started to open up, and the tough outer shell started to melt away. Instead of being indifferent and cold toward people he started to look for affection and attention from the few people he had grown to trust. It took over a year for him to fully open up. He always looks for the people he knows best when anxious situations arise. If you take your time with him, you will see the quirky, tenacious, kind hearted horse we have come to know and love.

Eclipse
Roux
Ushi

Eclipse is a fairly recent addition to the herd. His history is vague, but it seems he was previously a show jumper who that then turned out in a paddock and left to fend for himself. When he arrived, he was in a neglected state and was underweight, sick and lame (injured). At the time Eclipse had a very passive personality to the point that he would run from other horses instead of taking up his rightful place. He was at the bottom of the pecking order in his paddock, and was often being bullied away from his food, water and shelter. Regardless of the fact he was often bullied, he continued to seek the company of other horses. With people however, he was trusting and affectionate right from the day we brought him home. With lots of love and TLC Eclipse’s mental and physical health improved and he has gained a new-found confidence and enjoyment for life.

Roux has a very difficult past. At the age of 13, he had already had 12 different owners and homes. He had been used as everything from a roping horse, trail horse, Western show horse and everything in between. He is a very intelligent horse that learns quickly, but also a very headstrong horse. As a result, previous owners fell in love with his intelligence, and then became fearful of his strength and willfulness which led to some severe abuse. We have been working very hard to help Roux back from his traumatic past. He seems fearless and brave, but can switch to being reactive in an instant. Roux is used in observation only in our program because of his trauma issues, but even just by observing him, many can often see their own trauma through his big beautiful eyes.

As a retired show horse, Ushi is a barn favorite, enjoying the company of humans and the power of connection and touch. She is an excellent horse to work with to understand boundaries and limits since she is very expressive and demonstrative. As an older horse Ushi needs to be handled with care to take into account some of her physical limitations. She is a great horse to help work on patience and living in the moment. She is now also retired from ridden work and has a great deal to offer as a therapy horse.

Angel

A beautiful retired show and school horse, Angel lives up to her name. She is very good natured and is known for her patience with young children. Due to arthritis, she is no longer being ridden and has now joined the horses&humans team where her sensitive nature and wise eyes can help others gain a better understanding of themselves and their capacity to communicate with other species. It’s very hard not to fall in love with this wise old soul.

Rusty

Rusty is the epitome of solidity. Nothing fazes this horse and he can face any challenge with courage and strength. HIs loyalty to his chosen human is unwavering and he is brave and intelligent. Rusty exudes confidence in everything he does. Although he appreciates human presence, his affection and presence must nonetheless be earned. His stoic nature and willingness to work is infectious and charming.

Echo

Lexi

Echo is a fiery horse with a BIG personality, has her own agenda, and is not about to change it for anyone. At times her feisty personality may make her appear “bossy”, but behind her fiery exterior she is a horse that still has a lot of anxiety. Echo had a tough past, she was bought by someone who was the wrong match for her and sadly suffered some unfair treatment because her old owners were afraid of her. She seems to have a strong preference for women over men when it comes to people and horses, though she will make an exception for a man who’s not afraid to show his soft side. When you get to know her and earn her trust you start to see her sweet and quirky personality shine through.

Lexi is the social butterfly of the barn. She is an extremely anxious horse that is nervous about everything, except for other horses and people. We like to call her our “greeter”, because if you walk into the barn and pass by her stall she’ll have her nose in your face looking for affection. Lexi forms connections with both people and horses easily, and puts her trust in other people and other horses blindly. She turns to the people and horses in her life for confidence and comfort when her anxiety is getting the better of her, and she’s the type of horse that loves to have a best friend to rely on. Lexi is a good worker, and likes to have a partner that helps guide her and reassure her in her anxious moments. She is currently working on activities to slowly build her self-confidence with her trusted humans by her side.
